School is out, summer activities with 2 little people will take precedence, my belly will keep growing with lil "Burrito" inside (as we have labeled him until we decide a name), and the remodel continues.
<br />
<br />
I thought I would post a few before pictures of the house so we can see what the place looked like to begin with. The bones were good, as they say. I loved some little details about this house--the finnial tip door hinges (weird, I know--who luuuuvs hinges?), a couple of dutch doors in the laundry and garage, the beautiful random width wood floors, the "vintage" calacutta gold marble in the master and powder bathrooms, the fairly simple and classic floorplan and facade, the HUGE backyard and location, location, location of course!
<br />
<br />
I'll start with the living room/kitchen area which is where the bulk of the work is being done.<br />
<br />
Here are the BEFORE pictures:
Family Room/Den - On the other side of that wall of built-ins is the breakfast room. We decided to take down that wall and put the kitchen there with a big island visually separating the family room and new kitchen. Basically flip-flopping the old breakfast room and kitchen areas. Kind of a big deal but we think it will have the flow of a more updated open family living space with that change
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/?action=view&current=hr2712676-7.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/hr2712676-7.jpg" width="640" /></a>
Those big windows on either side of the fireplace will turn into french doors leading to the patio outside
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/?action=view&current=hr2712676-6.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/hr2712676-6.jpg" width="640" /></a>
Here is the old kitchen. It was redone about 10 years ago but wasn't going to fit the vision for an open floorplan concept. Take a good look at that kitchen....
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/?action=view&current=hr2712676-8.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/hr2712676-8.jpg" width="640" /></a>
My sister in law attempted to salvage the kitchen cabinets and granite counters for her house. Sooooo....a few weeks later, her kitchen looked like this...<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/?action=view&current=christinaskitchen.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="360" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/christinaskitchen.jpg" width="640" /></a>
...amazing, huh? The refrigerator was hers to begin with but all the cabinets, other appliances, and light fixtures are from our "new" house. One girl's demo pile is another girl's new kitchen...
.<br />
<br />
What you can't see in those pictures is we are bumping out the wall where the existing laundry room used to be to make room for the new kitchen and create a larger laundry/mud room. Kind of hard to explain so I'll just show you that in the pictures of the build back later.<br />
<br />
We are also remodeling the master bathroom, seen here in it's original 1950s glory:
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/?action=view&current=hr2712676-16.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/hr2712676-16.jpg" width="640" /></a>
....but take note of that marble. I'm going to use it somewhere!
<br />
<br />
And this little study/office room that used to sit next to the master bath will be converted to the master closet. The shelves were removed and a pocket door leading to the master bath will be located about where that computer screen is
on those shelves.<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/?action=view&current=hr2712676-9.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Renovation%202012/hr2712676-9.jpg" width="640" /></a>
So there you go! Before pictures of the house and I can't wait to see how the transformation takes shape. I always love a good before and after story!!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-62557288830431747952012-03-19T11:22:00.000-07:002012-03-19T11:22:45.838-07:00Many Kinds of BusyWell, hello there, friends and followers! I can't believe it's nearing the end of March 2012?!<br />
I suppose I have temporarily dropped off the face of the earth....I'd like to tell you I've spent all this time basking in the sun in the Caribbean, drinking fruity drinks, and swimming in the crystal blue ocean.....but I digress....<br />
<br />
I'll give you some excuses that October/November became overwhelmingly busy as we started negotiations and finally ended up purchasing a new home! <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/somerland%20house/?action=view&current=somerland_front.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="424px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/somerland%20house/somerland_front.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Very exciting but my days were filled dealing with all the home buying minutia. December we were busy with Christmas activity and January we discovered we were going to welcome Baby #3 to our family. It has been quite an exciting few months!<br />
<br />
I kinda dropped doing projects around our current house because we are going to sell it soon and I'd rather start over and put all my creativity in the new house. I love painting/redoing furniture but my current house is so crammed full of furniture there isn't space (or time with 2 small kiddos) to do any of that.<br />
<br />
There is a lot of remodeling we (um, our contractor is) doing to the new house so I hope to be able to share that project with you as we move forward.<br />
<br />
I would love to post some inspiration pictures but there are so many so I'll just send you to my <a href="http://pinterest.com/woolflaxblog/">Pinterest</a> account for now.Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-36823045672894756262011-09-05T12:56:00.000-07:002011-09-05T12:57:12.174-07:00Pillows: The More the MerrierWell, this is a lame first post after disappearing for almost 2 months but I have to start somewhere!<br />
<br />
I've done some little projects here and there. I have forgotten or been working too fast to take pictures of most. The kids are starting MDO this week so maybe I'll have more time to blog!<br />
<br />
We recently took a summer holiday to visit my inlaws in California. They have lived in Northern California for the past 8 years or so. I always hear about and see what my thrift-consignment-store-garage-sale-loving mother in law scores at these places and I am convinced California is the best market for resale goods.<br />
<br />
She went to a garage sale the other day and picked up a surprise for my daughter's room:<br />
Two soft pink boudoir pillows with a white embroidered edge she thought were "just perfect" for her big girl room. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0819.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/DSC_0819.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Indeed, the details are beautiful and the colors match her room perfectly.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0820.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/DSC_0820.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0827.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/DSC_0827.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
And the woman selling them made sure Debbie knew these were not just any boudoir pillows, they are made by <a href="http://www.frette.com/">Frette</a>, a 150 year old European luxury linen company.<br />
<br />
And can you guess how much these pillows were? $5 each....HOMERUN!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0815.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frette%20Pillows/DSC_0815.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Thanks to Debbie for keeping an eye out for us. Wish I could hit more garage sales in California!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-87756045164454299002011-07-15T21:44:00.000-07:002011-07-15T21:48:21.638-07:00Gray and Gold: An Elegant PairingThere is something I am really loving about the combination of gold with gray.<br />

My obsession with this color combo started when I was looking for <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/04/oatbran-yummy-for-more-than-just-your.html">a new paint color for my living room/kitchen/breakfast/entry</a> in search of the perfect warm gray or "greige", as some call it. I needed just the right tone since I have a lot of warm tones in the wood, furniture, accessories in my house. Pairing gray (generally perceived as a cool color) with gold (a warm tone) seems strange at first but when it's the right combination.....ah, serenity now! <br />
In my paint search, I stumbled upon a blog called <a href="http://www.aperfectgray.com/">A Perfect Gray</a> (ha!) with some beautiful images....it seems I'm not the only one in search of the *perfect* gray<br />

I would recommend it for sure if you are in the area. Lots of activities to keep the kiddos interested.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I'll leave you with a few blogs I read recently that inspired me. <br />
<br />
Being in a stage of possible transition and itching for a little more space, <a href="http://asoftplace.net/2011/07/the-lure-and-myth-of-the-big-house/">this post at A Soft Place to Land</a> spoke to me. Aren't we all wanting more? But if we get it will we be satisfied or will we just want a little more after that? I remember moving into the house we live in now 4 years ago, when I was pregnant with our firstborn. I had no idea what we would do with THREE bedrooms and a laundry room! (We had just moved from a 900 SF, 1 bedroom apartment in Philadelphia). Now, with 2 kids and all the stuff that goes with them, I feel a little cramped....but am I really? We probably live better than 90% of the world. Am I grateful for where the Lord has put me now? Am I <em>really</em> thankful? A work in progress...I can relate to Kimba's post.<br />
<br />
Another <a href="http://www.rareandbeautifultreasures.com/2011/06/beach-cottage-important-back-story.html">story I loved is from Erin at Rare and Beautiful Treasures</a>. I have been <strike>stalking</strike> reading Erin's blog for a while and have followed her family's journey from selling their "dream home" in order to really live the life of their dreams. And interwined with it all, the story of their beautiful baby boy. I love this story because this family was living just like everyone else does but then dramatically changed their path and are starting to live purposefully with a vision. I'm just so inspired to really sit down and think about what we really want as a family for the next 10 years instead of just letting the next 10 years happen to us, ya know?<br />
<br />
Well, I love dreaming and looking at beautfiul things as much as the next person...since I was too lazy to post any pictures,<a href="http://pinterest.com/woolflaxblog/"> here's my Pinterest account</a>. Feel free to follow me! I'd love to look at your dreamy pins and pictures too!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-1400984824786868962011-07-02T20:55:00.000-07:002011-07-02T20:55:10.850-07:00Dressers Be DoneOk, have I bored y'all to tears with these dressers? Mercy! <br />
I'm sure you are thinking: "enough with the dressers and the gray/white combo already? let's move on, lady"<br />
<br />
I promise this is the last post. I finally finished up the short dresser that matches <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/06/somebody-stop-me.html">this chest of drawers</a> and moved it into my daughter's room. Also,set up her <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/06/side-table-redo.html">matching nightstand featured in this post</a>. I won't kill you with more words but I am really loving the final product. Just a reminder of the before....<br />

Luuuvin it. Until I have final pictures of the dresser that match <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/06/somebody-stop-me.html">this chest of drawers</a>. I will show you a quickie I painted. <br />
<br />
Said dresser will go in <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/04/big-girl-room.html">my daughter's room</a> which I<em> just</em> finished putting together. <br />
The changes never end.....<br />
<br />
Since the dresser is gray I decided to paint her little bedside table to match. It's been sitting there without hardware looking sad. This little table and it's twin belonged to my grandmother. My mom painted them years ago and they sat happily in my bedroom when I lived at home. Before painting every thing in sight was a fad, my mom was a beast with a brush and latex paint. <br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0632.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0632.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I decided to freshen one up for my little girl....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0267.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0267.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">(Paris Gray & Old White)</div><br />
In true Lori fashion, I had to embellish the top (I have an embellishment addiction)....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0279.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0279.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Such beautiful details were begging to be celebrated!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0283.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0283.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I am amazed the original skeleton keys have not been lost after at least 70+ years! They are so pretty....<br />
<br />

I suppose because I was going from a medium color wood to gray. On <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/06/chalk-paint-endeavor-4.html">my side table project</a> I did 2 coats since I was painting Old White over dark wood. It covered the dark wood much better after 2 coats.<br />
<br />
~ On large surfaces like the side or top of a dresser try to use brush strokes going in the same direction. I feel like this really helps with a smooth finish once the chalk paint dries.<br />
<br />
~ Don't panic with the streaky look of the chalk paint when wet, it dries beautifully even.<br />
<br />
~ I applied the clear wax with an Italian Wax brush.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGap3uuEGx3bTNreggWKOVVU241BCXVMdhT1iqQGUawU-Z3MZPyWrxpDMEQOMKpDouYfTptao54w06XS4bFie3R0T7LH_9mrQVepnTrIqccak3MI9YLh6HoveaZu9K8IrYiYRUs8s04Dc/s1600/italian+wax.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191px" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGap3uuEGx3bTNreggWKOVVU241BCXVMdhT1iqQGUawU-Z3MZPyWrxpDMEQOMKpDouYfTptao54w06XS4bFie3R0T7LH_9mrQVepnTrIqccak3MI9YLh6HoveaZu9K8IrYiYRUs8s04Dc/s320/italian+wax.jpg" width="320px" /></a></div>I noticed when you apply the clear wax with this brush (and probably any other bristle brush) the bristles scrape the chalk paint ever so slightly to reveal the layer below. Maybe if I would've done 2 coats on the dresser this wouldn't have happened so much. In my opinion, it adds to the character of the piece but FYI: If you have a super nasty color underneath that you absolutely do not want to peek through, I would go ahead and hit your piece with 2 coats to minimize any chance of scratch thru. But it is very minor. For the dresser, I knew I was going to distress the edges any way so this wasn't too much of a concern. But just so you know....<br />
<br />
~ The wax brush is a chunk of change at about $35 so I use it for my clear wax and use a cheap chip brush for the darker waxes like the Fiddes Jacobean and the Hannant's Rustic. That was a great tip from the man at the specialty store where I bought the paint. If you're going to invest in an italian wax brush use it exclusively for the clear since you'll probably be covering more surface area with that one.<br />
<br />
~ Make sure you put the clear wax on <strong>before</strong> you put any dark wax on. If you haven't sealed the chalk paint with a clear wax, it will stain the chalk paint and you won't be able to wipe it off if you get it too dark<br />
<br />
~ If you do get too much dark wax and the baby wipes won't clean it up sufficiently you can <strong>add</strong> clear wax over the dark wax and rub out the dark wax. It almost acts like an eraser. Isn't that wacky? It works....I tried it.<br />
<br />
~ Lastly, this paint is extremely artistic which I love. I used to paint with oils and acrylics and I bet many of you out there who like to do this sort of thing are artsy as well. You can do all sorts of creative things so just dive in and experiment. The wonderful thing about these waxes and the chalk paint is that you can just paint over the "oops" area with the chalk paint and start over. So you really don't have much to lose except for a little time.<br />
<br />
I hope that wasn't too much rambling about chalk paint. I hope you all who say you have some and haven't used it just go for it! Let me know if you paint something...I'd love to see it :)<br />
Good luck and happy painting, friends!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-6058377487930104622011-06-26T21:46:00.000-07:002011-06-26T21:46:57.032-07:00Dresser Play-by-PlayChalk paint: O, how I love thee....let me count the ways....<br />
<br />
Let me tell you about my prep work:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=baby20wipes.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="150px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/baby20wipes.jpg" width="200px" /></a><br />
<br />
That's it...that's all...no primer....no sanding.....no being banished to the garage in the 100 degree summer heat. Just wipe it down to get the dust off and get to the fun part! I use my trusty Purdy brush and go to town <em>indoors</em> because the stuff doesn't smell.<br />
<br />
Mr. Wooly happened to be working at the kitchen table and looked up after about 20 minutes and said "You know, I don't know much about paint (**<em>ahem</em>** nor do I care to), but I can't believe how well that stuff covers and it doesn't stink" It took me 45 minutes to 1 hour to paint the entire chest shell <strong>and</strong> drawer faces.<br />
<br />
One coat Paris Gray<br />
Details Old White<br />
Apply a thin, very thin coat of Hannant's Clear Wax<br />
distress the edges with a sanding block<br />
wipe down with baby wipes again<br />
Apply dark wax <em>sparingly, </em>keep some wipes handy to wipe away if you get it too dark<br />
<i> </i>Fiddes & Sons Jacobean wax adds the Double D factor: Dirty and Depth. Use sparingly in corners, on edges. Pretty much anywhere I would normally use a wipe-off type glaze, apply the dirty wax. A great tip from <a href="http://www.perfectlyimperfectblog.com/">Shaunna</a>'s <a href="http://www.perfectlyimperfectblog.com/2011/06/chalk-paint-faqs.html">wax video tutorial</a> is to dip your brush in the wax and then wipe your brush off. This is where I have made mistakes in the past. A little goes a looooong way with the Jacobean color. It's basically ink black in the can. Here is a picture of the dresser, top part with the dirty wax treatment, bottom part just painted with clear wax<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0187-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0187-1.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
See how the bottom looks great but just a little flat. Like it's been freshly painted but doesn't have that extra umph. The top has a little more depth to it. A close up of top/bottom difference:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0192.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0192.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
Mmmm....dirty wax is good<br />
<br />
The hardest and most time consuming part of this whole project was cleaning those crazy tarnished brass hardware fixtures. Man ALIVE! I wanted to scream. It took way too long. I researched how to do it online. First I determined that the hardware was brass and not brass-plated. If a magnet sticks = brass plated, no magnet sticky = brass. There is a difference in cleaning methods.<br />
<br />
First I washed them all in warm soapy water, as suggested by The Internet. Ha! That did nothing for me. Then I tried a concotion of 2 tblsp lemon juice + 2 tblsp white vinegar + enough baking soda to make a paste and scrubbed them with a toothbrush. A little better. I finally caved and bought some Brasso and that helped. After a lot of polishing I washed and scrubbed with soap and water <em>again</em> and they did come out much better. But for 12 drawer pulls that was a lot of work! <br />
<br />

<br />
First, I need to confess that I just need to stop looking at Craigslist. I need a filter on my computer to keep me away from that website. Soon my house is going to look like a junked up antique store with pieces of furniture piled on top of each other.<br />
<br />
Would you go visit these?<br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">(pardon the blurry Craigslist pictures)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfbe3illY7e665oS0NNdYOE8c32Q1tLH0mFieG8tkTqjgv43QF-gsJnMrzk_yRlzGf-3JKTN6wFxjafyWBROqjIQBElbPmSrOntOlpKdnlOjQcyPv3uSbfl9GFr51Gb5UiW3SROr-XxdE/s1600/dresser1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfbe3illY7e665oS0NNdYOE8c32Q1tLH0mFieG8tkTqjgv43QF-gsJnMrzk_yRlzGf-3JKTN6wFxjafyWBROqjIQBElbPmSrOntOlpKdnlOjQcyPv3uSbfl9GFr51Gb5UiW3SROr-XxdE/s1600/dresser1.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaMfYGSrUac6xSnbZO8_ZzpOwoefVTrKSk23FFwHr7Ikst5E5ezHvJlE3doqv6v9KkdqA0uHDQ2HsgV4kZScEdf0Z6yNp0o-PK80RM74X6v7W9k9Tmu_sv4KVNvLZZvSBo6Qj9a7t-JHQ/s1600/dresser2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaMfYGSrUac6xSnbZO8_ZzpOwoefVTrKSk23FFwHr7Ikst5E5ezHvJlE3doqv6v9KkdqA0uHDQ2HsgV4kZScEdf0Z6yNp0o-PK80RM74X6v7W9k9Tmu_sv4KVNvLZZvSBo6Qj9a7t-JHQ/s1600/dresser2.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Oh.....<br />
.....but I did.....<br />
....and I bought....<br />
.....for $50....BOTH for $50!! That's my excuse for being MIA<br />
<br />
I don't have a proper "before" photo because I just got so dang excited and started painting but basically this:<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0163.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0163.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
and this:<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0155.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0155.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
turned into this:<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0213.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0213.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">************************{{sigh}}************************</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I think I am in love with chalk paint after all. This is my 5th project and I think I finally got the hang of it. More on the process later....</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The after picture is actually a bit blurry and has weird shadows but I couldn't wait to take some glamour shots of her. I made my husband (and his friend who happened to drop by for a visit) stop for a moment of silence to admire the transformation. Let's revel in the details, shall we?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/?action=view&current=DSC_0215.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/French%20dressers/DSC_0215.jpg" width="425px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Oh, hardware, how stubbornly tarnished you were...</div><div style="text-align: left;">but it was worth the 3 step process to get you shiny again!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I don't know about you but around our house the summer months foster a lot of "togetherness" with my kids (*insert crazed smile here*). I love our children but it is easy for me to slip into negativity and be quick tempered when I am repeating myself for the 1000th time and breaking up fight #113 of the day. All the while, encouraging my own kids to "use kind words!!" <br />
<br />
I read this verse in Proverbs this morning and was inspired to create some digital art with it that I could see daily to remind me of how my attitude should be, not only with the kiddos, but with my husband, friends, and others too. <br />
I also happen to love any decoration having to do with bees since our last name starts with the letter "B". So I came up with this little thingy using graphics from the beloved <a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/">Graphics Fairy</a>. I think that's OK with Photobucket? Someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong here! This is my first attempt at a download like this. It should be all ready to go in 8x10 format, for your printing pleasure....<br />
<br />
I put mine in an old, unused frame and have it out for us all to see. <br />

So the new objects of my affection (<a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/06/craigslist-excitement.html">Craigslist chairs</a>) landed in my dining room. I love my little farmhouse table. It's cute. Not a "forever" piece since it won't sit the 8-10 I would prefer but I like it. We bought the dining set along with <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/06/chalk-paint-endeavor-4.html">these side tables</a> when we moved into our current (and first "grown up") house, coming from a tiny 1 bedroom apartment. I envision this as a breakfast table in it's next life if we move to another house.<br />
I digress, I dragged my gray/french blue-ish chairs into the dining room where they sat with 4 other white chairs and a table with a dark wood top and white legs. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Table%20Slipcover/?action=view&current=DSC_0061.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Table%20Slipcover/DSC_0061.jpg" width="588px" /></a><br />
<br />
Too many finishes in one place. My eyes were bouncing all over the room. I don't know what color to look at. Please. tame. this. space.<br />
<br />
I threw on a white table cloth that I use for special occasions. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Table%20Slipcover/?action=view&current=DSC_0064.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Table%20Slipcover/DSC_0064.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Close, but still not quite what I wanted for every day use. Think.....think...<br />
I remembered a <a href="http://la-vie-abondante.blogspot.com/2011/04/birthday-celebrations-41311.html">cute table cloth</a> my friend, Emily, made for her daughter's birthday party table...darling....I was inspired to create.....<br />
<br />
...I shall make my own custom fitted tablecloth! In the shabby variety...<br />
<br />
.....with RUFFLES!<br />
<br />

<br />
LOVE IT!( Please disregard the trashed out play room beyond!)<br />
<br />
Now the chairs can shine against a neutral backdrop and my dining room gets a light and fresh makeover for the summer months.....now maybe I need to paint the room too?? The sage green is getting a little tired these days....<br />

I get downright giddy browsing Craigslist for some well-priced hidden treasure. So in the spirit of sharing....look what I scored on Craigslist!!! <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Craigslist%20chairs/?action=view&current=DSC_0021.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="522px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Craigslist%20chairs/DSC_0021.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I have a thing for ladderback chairs. LOVE them. I bought a $5 ladderback at a yard sale the other day but that's another story.<br />
<br />
The great part about this pair is that I don't even have to paint them because they already have a wonderfully distressed, aged paint job. I have a suspicion that chalk paint and wax was used on them because of how the paint will flake if I really dig my nail into it. But they also have a beautfiul, hard sheen that looks very similar to my waxed furniture pieces.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Craigslist%20chairs/?action=view&current=DSC_0043.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Craigslist%20chairs/DSC_0043.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
Ok, so I scored these BOTH for $60. That's good, right? I don't think the person knew what they had. I thought $60 was a steal. Oh, I looooooove these details!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Craigslist%20chairs/?action=view&current=DSC_0023.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Craigslist%20chairs/DSC_0023.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />

<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Side%20Tables/?action=view&current=DSC_1030.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Side%20Tables/DSC_1030.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I know, I know....there's nothing wrong with them, right? Why would I paint these? The <em>horror</em>! <br />
<br />
Disclaimer for all the wood-o-philes: these are mass produced manufactured pieces, by the way. I am not destroying Aunt Ethel's prized antiques! :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I do love the shape and style of these tables but I bought them when we first moved into our house 4 years ago. I was 11 months pregnant with #1, and in a remarkable twist of fate they were the perfect, <em>exact</em> match set to a coffee table I already owned (purchased in a small little furniture store 2000 miles away in a different state, no less). In a desperate act of "I-need-side-tables-right-now-and-{<em>crazy</em>}-they-match-my-current-coffee-table-so-it's-meant-to-be" I bought them.<br />
<br />
But this girl has always got to go changin' things!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.perfectlyimperfectblog.com/2011/06/chalk-paint-faqs.html">Reading Shaunna's FAQs and watching her video on chalk paint and waxes</a> gave me the final UMPH to do this. I highly recommend the video for some FYIs on chalk paint. I also re-watched<a href="http://missmustardseed.blogspot.com/2011/03/waxes-101.html"> Miss Mustard Seed's video on waxes</a>. Again, very informative. Just watch them and hopefully your fears will subside enough to get you to hold your paint brush without breaking into hives. At least it helped me.<br />
<br />
This is my 4th chalk paint endeavor. #1 & #2 were successful, #3 started to give me hives again but I did some experimenting on that one which I will share in a later post along with some chalk paint lessons learned......<br />
<br />
but for now, let's enjoy the after! <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Side%20Tables/?action=view&current=DSC_1108.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Side%20Tables/DSC_1108.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Side%20Tables/?action=view&current=DSC_1118.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Side%20Tables/DSC_1118.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Lighter? Brighter? The Mister is not convinced. He says the table looks a bit bipolar. Fancy on top, shabby on the bottom. Ok, I can receive that. It<em> is</em> quite shiny on the top but I love the wood grain pattern so I was nervous to touch it. But I may strip the top and do a wash over it to tone it down a bit....we'll see....this is a work in progress!<br />

I am in a busy season of life with 2 toddlers so I don't get to do this as much as I like but my new favorite thing is making applique t-shirts.<br />
<br />
I thought I'd do a quick tutorial even though this may be so obvious. I apologize if you start to drift off!!<br />
I made this one for our friend's little boy....wow...sorry for the blurry picture!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0976.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0976.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
1. Print the letters out in Microsoft Word in a font you like, making sure it is the correct size to fit the t-shirt. I cut out each letter from the paper, pinned the paper letter on the camo fabric, and re-cut each letter from the fabric. I usually cut the fabric slightly larger than my paper letter by about 1/4". I do this only because it is easier (for me) to not cut exactly on the line of the paper letter and make so many intricate corner cuts.<br />
<br />
2. Cut a large rectangle of white jersey t-shirt material as a "background" for the camo letters.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0950.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0950.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
3. I used fusible tape or stitch witchery to adhere the camo letters to the white jersey fabric to make it easier to sew them on later. Just place a damp washcloth over the camo letters (stitch witchery between camo and white jersey) and apply a hot iron to get it to stick.<br />
<br />
4. Now, the patience builder. I carefully and slowly stitched the letters for extra reinforcement. This takes a little practice and patience but you just stop every few stitches and turn your fabric so you can sew a line down the middle of each letter. See, if you look close, it's not perfect but it does the job. Camo letters aren't moving now.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0952.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0952.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0955.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0955.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
5. Attach the camo letters/white jersey piece to your t-shirt with the stitch witchery method again. (The great thing about doing it layered like this is if you get this far only to mess up, you haven't ruined the t-shirt, you just start over with the name again!---or you give up---but don't do that---remember I said it takes a little patience---you can do this!) <br />
<br />
6. Ok, almost done. Now you do a reinforcing stitch to attach the white jersey background onto the t-shirt. Sew as close as you can around the name on the white jersey.<br />
<br />
7. Trim off the excess around the outline stitch very carefully (preferably with small scissors) so you don't clip the main t-shirt, as I have done before....unfortunately<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0958.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0958.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
And here you go!<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0960.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0960.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
When you wash it, the edges of the letters will probably fray a bit but I think it adds charm and ruggedness to the look. It is a little boy's camo shirt, after all. We're going for a rugged look here. Here is another one...<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0996.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0996.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0995.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0995.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
The possibilities are endless with this basic concept. <br />
<br />
I made this one for Landon's sister....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0962.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0962.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
It's the same concept but I wanted the edges of this elephant to really fray so I cut the elephant about 1/2" larger than the template, then snipped flaps every 1/4" without cutting through your outline stitch. This snipping method is good when you're using cotton or poplin material. It helps the edge to fray<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0974-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0974-1.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Then when you wash it several times it will fray up (kind of like a <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=rag+quilt&hl=en&rlz=1T4TSNA_enUS411US379&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=whLcTZazOeTv0gGz44DADw&ved=0CEEQsAQ&biw=1341&bih=559">rag quilt</a>, if you've ever made one of those it's similar)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0982.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0982.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I used the same concept to make this shirt for my daughter. This one has been washed several times so it is really nice and frayed.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0985.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0985.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
I used corduroy for this one and it frays nicely without snipping around the edges. Just a straight stitch to sew the little A to the large A first. Then another straight stitch to sew the large A to the shirt.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/?action=view&current=DSC_0994.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Applique%20Tees/DSC_0994.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />

A while ago I bought this red-striped grain sack from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/grainsack?ref=ss_profile">this seller</a> on Etsy.com.<br />
<br />
I had made two pillows out of it for my sofa but when I got tired of them on my sofa, I turned them into table runners. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0790.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0790.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0794.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0794.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I just love the texture. This one is a medium weight and so yummy....<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0799.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0799.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I recently bought another sack from the same seller because I wanted an accent pillow for my son's bed.<br />
<br />
I had planned to cut it up to make a smaller pillow but when I got it I just hated to cut it in case I wanted to use it for something else. It also has a beautiful texture but is thicker.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0783.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0783.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
My mom had an extra king sized pillow she gave me and it fit the sack perfectly!<br />
<br />
I just folded the ends under since the length of the sack was longer than the pillow <br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0786.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0786.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0787.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0787.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Now it's a nice home for my little guy's little guys...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/?action=view&current=DSC_0788.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Grainsack/DSC_0788.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm particularly liking the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/grainsack?section_id=6161282">red and blue striped ones</a> Christina has in her shop now. Makes me want to do something Fourth of July-y!<br />
<br />
There are just so many things you can do with these things it makes my crafty brain spin! <br />

PS - I realize that post is several years old but I am still a big fan of this style!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-42340522053659188882011-05-14T20:58:00.000-07:002011-05-17T19:54:27.551-07:00Frenchy BenchyI bought this sad bench a while ago. The lady I bought it from wasn't planning to sell it until she had painted and reupholstered it. As she talked, all I heard was "red....velvet.....floral" and I knew I had to save this poor bench from certain embarassment. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0581.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0581.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0573.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0573.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
It looks worse than it really is. The springs and seat part were in good shape. I knew it just needed a paint job and some foam/batting/upholstery on top. That's something easily remedied with my handy dandy staple gun.<br />
<br />
First I gave it a coat of Valspar's Sea Salt Blue...love this color. Then I dry brushed my Annie Sloan's Old White Chalk Paint over the blue. A coat of Clear Hannant's Wax. Then a little strategic sanding (which ended up letting the weird green peek through but I rolled with it). Then a bit of Fiddes & Sons Jacobean wax. Using the waxes is a learning process but I've found I like the finish and control these waxes give you.<br />
<br />
On to the upholstery....<br />
<br />
I cut 1/2" high density foam and 1 layer of quilt batting to size.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0771.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0771.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Then staple it all down. I don't think I even bothered to staple the foam. I just stapled the batting over the foam to keep it in place.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0778.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0778.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Then staple the fabric down. This is the part that makes me sweat....literally. I usually staple in the middle of each side, pulling tight as I go. All that fabric pulling is a strength work out. Then staple all in between. <br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0810.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0810.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
The corners can be tricky. I usually start with a staple in the corner, then start stapling to either side of that staple and work out toward the sides (does that even make sense?) <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0812.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0812.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
Stapling can drive one crazy but I was just thankful I didn't have to contort my body like I did for <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/03/chairssix-months-in-making.html">the french chairs</a>. Now that was major work.<br />
<br />
Next on to the finishing touch...the piping. Now, I was prepared to <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-little-girls-big-girl-bed.html">make my own piping like I did for my daughter's headboard</a>. However, the fabric I bought was a bit thick. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but the weave and hand reminds me of an antique grainsack. It has a beautiful texture. I tried to make piping and it just wouldn't go through the machine. I couldn't even fit the fabric wrapped piping under the presser foot. What to do?? I cut strips of 1.25" fabric, folded it in thirds, and sewed down the middle.....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0839.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0839.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Then hot glued the trim strip to the edge. Not quite double welting but with the thick fabric it was the best I could think of using materials I had at home and without using that gimp stuff. Not that I'm against that...I used it on <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/03/chairssix-months-in-making.html">my french chairs</a> but I didn't want to use it for this.<br />
<br />
If I get brave I might do a stencil on the top....maybe a monogram or a simple graphic of some sort...I feel like it's begging me to do something to the fabric but I'm so nervous to touch it! What do you think? Will I ruin it?<br />
<br />
Now....where to put my little bench??? It keeps moving to different places in the house. I just can't decide<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/?action=view&current=DSC_0860.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Frenchie%20Benchie/DSC_0860.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />

So behind! I wanted it to be nice but low maintenance.<br />
<br />
I ordered some very cute invites from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PinkPickleStudios?ref=pr_shop">Pink Pickle Studios</a> on etsy.com. One of the few sellers who has personalized gymnastics invites but I think they turned out really cute :) <br />
<br />
I always get these type of invites printed at <a href="http://overnightprints.com/">overnightprints.com</a>. You kind of have to do this in advance to take advantage of the cheapest shipping option but because they run awesome promotions you can usually get 50 cardstock invites for around $12-$15 including shipping and envelopes! I know, wacky, huh?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/?action=view&current=JTAMbday.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="458px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/JTAMbday.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Pink Pickle Studios also made a sheet of printable party cirlces which I turned into cupcake toppers. These are so easy to do. You print the page of graphics on cardstock, punch out using a 2" scallop punch, then stick a wooden skewer between 2 circles and glue.<br />
<br />
I'm kinda obsessed with cupcake toppers? I made them last year for John's 3rd birthday and I had to do it again this year.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/?action=view&current=DSC_0637.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/DSC_0637.jpg" width="424px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/?action=view&current=DSC_0686.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="424px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/DSC_0686.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
I thought I would go all Martha, baking and icing my own cupcakes but in the end I bought them all baked and iced from Kroger. Then I did a little Photoshop action on the party circles and used the same circles to make thank you labels for the party favors. I know I probably should have purchased thank you circles but I went into a panic at the 11th hour when I decided I <em>needed</em> a cute label for the favors, like, yesterday.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/?action=view&current=DSC_0622.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="424px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/DSC_0622.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<center> </center><center>I ordered these cute plates and napkins that generally coordinated with it all from <a href="http://www.polkadotdesign.com/">this website</a>. Gender neutral, blue, pink, and gray colors...</center><center> </center><center><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/?action=view&current=DSC_0631.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="424px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/John%20Anna%20Party%202011/DSC_0631.jpg" width="640px" /></a></center><center>The 2 gold medalists had a blast on their big day....and I only had to tackle one kid birthday party this year! Phew!</center><center>I am certainly looking forward to girly-themed parties and fun boy parties in the future but with the kids having similar preschool age friends/siblings and 35-40 invitees we just went with ease (and air-conditioning) this year.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Burlap%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0068.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Burlap%20Pillows/DSC_0068.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
They were fairly easy envelope-closure pillows with a 1" flange. <br />
<br />
1) Sew right sides together<br />
I usually sew my pillows 1-1.5 inches smaller than my pillow. I like the filler pillow to fit snugly inside and not have a flabby, flappy cover. These are 14x20 lumbar pillows so the rectangle I made was 13.5"x19.5". Keeping in mind that sewing the 1" flange will make the pillow even smaller.<br />
<br />
2) Turn the pillow right side out<br />
<br />
3) Iron the pillow edges flat<br />
<br />
4) Sew a stich 1" from the edge all the way around. <br />
<br />
Hopefully that wasn't so confusing?! I wish I had taken more pictures of my steps...<br />
<br />
I used a stencil, flat stencil sponge brushes, and some antique brown craft paint to make the design on each pillow.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Burlap%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0067.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Burlap%20Pillows/DSC_0067.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
The pillows really complete the look of the chairs<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Burlap%20Pillows/?action=view&current=DSC_0064.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Burlap%20Pillows/DSC_0064.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
For those learning to sew, I bet if you do a YouTube search on "how to sew envelope closure pillows" you will find some good video guides? I can't tell you how much sewing I've learned from YouTube!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-31347706945478142602011-04-28T19:29:00.000-07:002011-05-15T12:51:57.370-07:00Kitchen Table Chalk Paint ProjectLike many projects around here, I started this one with such a burst of energy that I forgot to take a proper "before" photo so the transformation may not make as big an impact on you as it has me. <br />
<br />
I purchased this darling table at an antiques fair a few years ago. I really like it but it was starting to show some wear, especially as a kitchen table where we eat most of our meals. It was already "distressed" but it wasn't sealed at all and every time it got scratched or the kids put a sticker on it, the original gray paint peeled off revealing the honey colored wood underneath. The legs were painted a flat black and were also unsealed. You can imagine they had food particles and scratches all over. Flat paint is not very easy to clean.<br />
After 2 kids and 3 years my little table needed a facelift but I wanted it to stay true to it's original look.<br />
<br />
I used a brush to paint the top with the much blogged about <a href="http://www.anniesloan.com/">Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint</a> in Paris Gray. This was my first attempt at painting a large furniture with chalk paint. Paris Gray is a really lovely color. Here it is drying<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Kitchen%20Table/?action=view&current=eDSC_0552.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/Kitchen%20Table/eDSC_0552.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
It dries very fast. I thought that was all I would do until my husband came home to help me carry it outside but noooo....I got impatient and brutely carried this thing outside BY MYSELF to do the next steps. I guess I got carried away because I have no pictures of the in-between.<br />
<br />
I used Hannant's Clear Wax, which is sold with the Chalk Paint products, after the Paris Gray dried<br />
<br />
After the clear wax, I sanded the places I wanted the wood to show through. Seems weird to sand after you wax but that what they say to do to get better results.<br />
<br />
Then I brushed on the Fiddes and Sons Wax in Jacobean, wiping away where it was too dark for me. The nice thing about this wax is that you can add the clear wax back (even after the darker wax has dried!) if you want to lighten it up. The clear wax acts like an eraser so you really have great control over what your finished result looks like.<br />
<br />
Then, I proceeded with what should have been the first step and spray painted the legs with a satin black spray paint to freshen up those legs. I plan to add a clear wax to the legs to make them a little more "washable" this time around.<br />
<br />
Here is the final product, hopefully you can see some of the detail<br />

As I put everything back, I took the liberty of moving pictures around and tweaking things here and there. It's amazing what a little paint will motivate one to do...<br />
<br />
One thing I got jazzed about is filling a few simple black frames I had stored away with artwork from <a href="http://www.graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/">The Graphics Fairy</a>. I just love her website and enjoy browsing all the cool graphics. I printed the images directly onto some osnaberg fabric using <a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/2010/10/crafty-project-halloween-fabric-art.html">this method</a>.<br />
<br />
It is the coolest thing. I was addicted as soon as one worked out for me. I framed up <a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/2010/02/free-vintage-clip-art-2-ornate-teapots.html">these cute little teapots</a> for one corner of the kitchen....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0088.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0088.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
and <a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/2011/02/vintage-french-ephemera-download.html">this fun french chocolate label</a> for the space above my baker's rack.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0087.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="424px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0087.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0091.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0091.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
It's hard to tell in the pictures but the texture of the fabric really adds interest to the picture. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/2011/01/vintage-tea-clip-art-fancy-teacups.html">Here are a few other teacups</a> I found on her site but didn't use. How fun would these look individually framed in a grouping?<br />
I plan to make some fun pillows with this method also. The possibilities are endless, really.<br />
<br />
Some tips I learned when printing:<br />
<br />
- Trim all the edges around the paper so there are no stringys and <br />
- The fabric should be very flat against your paper. I used cardstock since it is a little stiffer than regular paper. When the fabric wasn't flat I got some ink drag on my fabric.<br />
<br />
The best part? <br />
We've been living with Valspar's Lyndhurst Timber since we moved in.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/89393_Valspar-2007-9C-Lyndhurst-Timber" title="Valspar 2007-9C Lyndhurst Timber at MyPerfectColor"><img alt="Valspar 2007-9C Lyndhurst Timber at MyPerfectColor" src="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/repositories/images/colors/MPC00089393-1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
It's not bad, it was just feeling too heavy these days. And after 4 years, a change was in order. Here are the before pictures I hastily took right before the painters showed up.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0014.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0014.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0020.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0020.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0022.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0022.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0021.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0021.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
I've dreaded painting the Lyndhurst Timber because there is no stopping point between the entry/kitchen/breakfast/living room. It is a big undertaking to remove all the wall hangings, move the furniture, and plan to remove ourselves and 2 small children from the house for one night to escape paint fumes but I finally just decided to do it! <br />
<br />
That was the easy part.<br />
<br />
After about 12 samples from Sherwin Williams I almost gave up. <br />
<br />
I was thisclose to using Benjamin Moore Bleeker Beige. It was one of my first 3 samples but I wasn't totally sold.....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/6021_Benjamin-Moore-HC-80-Bleeker-Beige" title="Benjamin Moore HC-80 Bleeker Beige at MyPerfectColor"><img alt="Benjamin Moore HC-80 Bleeker Beige at MyPerfectColor" src="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/repositories/images/colors/MPC00006021-1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
(these pictures are really not that representative but whatever)<br />
<br />
....so I went to Sherwie Willie for the 5th time with a sample in hand for Valspar's Oatbran. After 2 weeks, 12 samples, and patches of paint all over my walls, I needed to make a decision because they were having a 40% off paint sale. And that was going to be a big savings on 5 gallons of paint!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/89731_Valspar-6006-1B-Oatbran" title="Valspar 6006-1B Oatbran at MyPerfectColor"><img alt="Valspar 6006-1B Oatbran at MyPerfectColor" src="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/repositories/images/colors/MPC00089731-1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I wanted a grayish color that would be warm enough to coexist with all the golds, wood, and warm colors I have going on in our space. Oatbran is PERFECT! It honestly cost me about $70 in paint samples but it really is so worth it to have a color on our walls that I love, love, love. <br />
<br />
I seriously did a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balki_Bartokomous">Balki Bartokomous dance of joy</a> when I saw the finished result<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0076.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0076.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0078.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0078.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0079.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0079.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
It's gray!...but it's beige!...but it's gray!<br />
....and it changes beautifully throughout the day and evening. You can see we have lots of windows in the living room so it took a while to find a color that looked good all day and night long.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0081.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0081.jpg" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
By the way, my house doesn't normally look so neat but the kids are with the grandparents for a few days and we are hosting something at the house so I've got all my fancy stuff out.<br />
And while we're tooting our own horn, let's talk about that hideous black marble tile around the firplace. Ugh! And the gold trim....double ugh!!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0025.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0025.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
It doesn't go with anything in our house (except for the big black TV) Do you know replacing that tile was so easy? Sometimes you just gotta DO IT. Get off your booty and do something about what you don't like. It may be easier than you think.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0094.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0094.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
BTW: The tile is Emperador Light. It looks a little hazy because the tile man said to wait 24 hours before wiping off the excess grout. I shall do what I'm told but I had to post pictures because I couldn't wait!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-76751579995246643022011-04-15T13:57:00.000-07:002011-04-28T21:53:07.874-07:00The Big Girl Room<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0632.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0632.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
Well, I'm just going to post this even though I don't feel like I'm really done with her room yet. I am a straggler with details. Yeah, I notice there aren't knobs on the bedside table. "Eventually" is my new theme.<br />
If I wait for everything to be perfect it'll never get posted....so here it is THUS FAR<br />
<br />
I bought the mosquito netting canopy at Ikea and added the fabric topper to match her headboard. <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-little-girls-big-girl-bed.html">The story of the headboard here.</a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0677.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0677.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I plan to make a valance for this window seat to hang in front of the sheer drapes<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0647.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0647.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
Here is the hutch that I bought off Craigslist. <br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=hutch1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/hutch1.jpg" width="392px" /></a><br />
<br />
The way it was originally was the perfect primer coat. I didn't sand or anything. I just added a coat of dry-brushed paint over the existing because it was really white and really distressed. The extra coat really toned it down a bit. Then I added a chocolate glaze over the details for some depth.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0649.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0649.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />
<br />
I need to find suitable bin pulls for the 3 drawers....I'll find the right ones eventually....<br />
<br />
<br />
The hutch matched <a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2009/07/crafty-project-4526-chest-of-drawers.html">this dresser I painted a few years ago</a> since I had plenty of paint left over from this project.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/?action=view&current=DSC_0656.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640px" src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc19/aggiegirl00/Blog%20Stuff/DSC_0656.jpg" width="425px" /></a><br />

The metal banner is from the ever-popular <a href="http://www.lisaleonardonline.com/">Lisa Leonard</a>. I fell in love the minute I saw it on her website and knew it would be a great girly keepsake. She has some precious creations on her website!<br />

Been working in the garage this week to fix it to my liking and I hope to have the little girl room reveal soon. Can't wait to get it all together. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5XBBA6fgKf_NcjEGgyAGinFAo6Om2b8hrxTbP-7zZO4KHz5noYkiF0n36bpb6wKfxw3ReIM5mc09KKvLuUy-Q1879r3FSfgDaFr0YDzsVA3WVPG-QwP-RKgkK3o2-hJn_W8KLtbCUceU/s1600/hutch3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5XBBA6fgKf_NcjEGgyAGinFAo6Om2b8hrxTbP-7zZO4KHz5noYkiF0n36bpb6wKfxw3ReIM5mc09KKvLuUy-Q1879r3FSfgDaFr0YDzsVA3WVPG-QwP-RKgkK3o2-hJn_W8KLtbCUceU/s320/hutch3.jpg" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="left">Also, am up to my eyeballs in paint samples! Paint is so frustrating!!! Can I get an amen?<br />
We are taking the plunge and painting the foyer/living/kitchen/breakfast room which are all one big room so if you're going to paint one, you gotta paint it all. This is a big decision, people!! It's making me sweat. I hope to show some good pictures of the new, lighter and brighter space. <br />
<br />
Right now, we are living with Valspar's Lyndhurst Timber which is OK but the lighting in our home has always brought out it's red undertones and recently it's starting to make me wonky.<br />

<br />
The first runner up now is Bleeker Beige by ol' Benny Moore<br />
<br />
<img border="0" height="320" id="product_photo" src="http://www.myperfectcolor.com/v/vspfiles/photos/MPC0007023-2.jpg" width="320" /><br />
<br />
Honestly, these two look practically the same here but, trust me, it's a difference here with the sample painted on half my wall. <br />
<br />
Thanks to <a href="http://favoritepaintcolors.blogspot.com/">Favorite Paint Colors Blog</a> at least I can browse real pictures to get some ideas and inspiration. Wish me luck!</div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03125121731727605124noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964902078556052765.post-16073805033731601072011-03-15T18:54:00.000-07:002011-05-15T12:52:56.643-07:00My Little Girl's Big Girl BedI'm on a roll lately! No, I have not found miraculous extra hours in my days, these projects have all been sitting in various stages of progress for months and I've just recently put the finishing touches on them. Which means lots of posts for you guys!<br />
<br />
I found this headboard at a local thrift store (LAST SUMMER?!) and immediately fell in love with the shape. I wasn't so much in love with the cheapy, thin, green and white micro-check fabric. By the way, Little One was just barely over a year old and we weren't moving her into a big girl bed anytime soon but I knew I had to get this or I would regret it. It sat in the garage for a while waiting for it's destiny! And here we are on the verge of her 2nd birthday and I am so glad I was the "crazy one" who bought her big girl bed a year in advance. When you like something, you like it, am I right?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="480px" q6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbjK02V9jbwt-FrM0-J0TUUoQ5O8dFLYV3XR7G8BOg95wXqPJvGHoynv206PTSrZdZOAOfHcVO2srpIorYX6w09LIyflJpIC6VNMT-k9Lwgiq_4_T9lRRY1e6i3vn0-0utTCX6Amx23Ic/s640/IMG_0386.JPG" width="640px" /></div><br />
Compared to<a href="http://woolflaxandbeeswax.blogspot.com/2011/03/chairssix-months-in-making.html"> those chairs</a>, the staples on this one were sooo easy. The foam underneath was in great shape so I just put a layer of quilt batting over the foam and put this nice new romantic girly fabric on it.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There was quite the drama with this fabric. Ordered it in Sept. didn't open the package till January after I got the bed frame painted and glazed. Upon opening, realized there were blue pen marks all over my 3 yards of fabric! Had to reorder only to learn the fabric was on backorder for a month. A lesson in patience I tell you! But it was worth the wait because I really do love the choice.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am convinced <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/">Centsational Girl</a> and I live parallel lives because on more than one occasion I have come to an impasse or question on some project and I need only wait one or two days and her next post has to do with the very thing I am stuck on. It's a bit freaky....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In this case,<a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2010/12/simple-sew-double-welt-cord/"> her post on double welt cording</a> was so timely as I had visited a sewing store the previous week looking for a special sewing foot to make double welting and was so disappointed to learn that there was no such thing? Thanks to CG I was able to move forward.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
